Module 6: Computer Ethics

QUESTION:
If you are to choose your top 3 difficult-to-follow computer ethics commandments, what are these? Explain why.
ANSWER:
Thou shalt not use or copy software for which you have not paid
Now days, having a computer are very expensive, thus it cost a lot money just to invest a certain gadget; it needs Operating System to be able to use the said gadget. Crisis is the main reason why  we may tend to use a  computer software which have not paid. Thus, human in nature loves to use a certain thing for free, and they are very excellent on finding ways just to make their lives easy.
Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you write.
This commandment for me is also hard to follow, thus we only pursue on our self perception. And having this is not easy, since we are not God or maybe a psychic to know what other may people think and what would happened next after you made a certain program.
Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect.
Yes, it is very important to show consideration and respect to others on having a computer in order to have peace and happiness in every single person. However, there are those people who are very keen on finding errors and all they want is perfections.

QUESTION:
Suppose you are to add 2 more commandments to the existing 10 commandments of computer ethics, what are these? Are these 2 new commandments of equal importance to the existing ones? Discuss.
ANSWER:
Thou shalt not create a website to harm  other people.
It is important commandment, thus we computer users may able to know that creating a simple website can harm other people. For example, pornographic website, this website contains an explicit videos, photos, and information. That  could harm other  people such as their dignity and mind.
Thou shalt use computer to be more productive.
Computers are created in order to help poeple in different aspects of their lives, and not to harm. Thus having this commandment may enlighten every single person's perceptive, and it could help to us. It also increases the standard of living since more and more products can be purchased, if product production is more.

QUESTION:
What is ransomware? Which of the 10 computer ethics commandments is/are violated by ransomware?
ANSWER:
Ransomware is a type of malicious computer software that threatens the user to take some destructive or harmful actions. Ransomware demands the victim to pay up in order to stop it from running a payload or restore modified or stolen information. Typical parasites are usually trojans, malicious computer programs, which are disguised as harmless applications. Such pests get secretly installed to the system (http://www.freetechexams.com/computer-networking/security/ransomware.html). This malicious software violates on the following computer ethics commandments:
[2] Thou shalt not interfere with other people’s computer work.
[3] Thou shalt not snoop around other people’s files.]
[4] Thou shalt not use a computer to steal.
[7] Thou shalt not use other people’s computer resources without authorization.
[10] Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect.
It violates with these commandments because, the  intruder creates a malicious code just like they would to create other types of malware. The code is specifically designed to take control of your computer and then hijack all of your files. Following encryption of your files, you will most likely receive a demand for monetary compensation or other similar threat in return for your hijacked files. Some times the monetary amount is small and other times it can amount to hundreds of dollars. The intruder profits even if the amount is small due to the number of computers they are infecting with ransomware.
The demand for money is often requested to be paid through an online service such as PayPal and some intruders even go as far as asking for a money order to be sent to an address where you are unable to track them down. If you fail to pay, the intruder is capable of creating additional malicious code that will destroy the content of your PC a little bit at a time until you pay up (http://www.spamlaws.com/how-ransomware-works.html).

Module 4: Finalist Theories

QUESTION:
How often do you make an effort to practice your strengths and virtues? (A virtue is a trait you cultivate. Ex: patience, generosity kindness). Are these traits key to a happy life? Discuss.
ANSWER:
Conquering problems and trails are the efforts that I used to make in order to practice my strength. By that I can measure how strong my strength. However there are two good things that I want to practice and those are the positive attitude and patience. Having these is contagious, and it may contribute to a happy life, a good work environment, and a motivated learning team. However, we need also to recognize our weaknesses, thus it would be the area that we need to ask for help or assistance from others in order to grow and prosper as an individual. As they said “life is a never-ending learning experience”, hence it an important lesson we can ever learn from comes from within. And we can’t do that if we don’t have patience, and “Patience is a Virtue” as a saying says. Moreover this quotation defines as a way of expressing the importance of being patient. And virtue is a trait or quality deemed to be morally excellent and thus is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_patience_a_virtue). And these traits are the key to a happy life. Because if don’t have strength you may not able to clash different problems you may have in your life, and having virtue is also important thus it molds the individual outlook on life, and it give a moral’s to do what is right.

QUESTION:
For some, happiness relies on money. In some cases, hacking means money. Would you do hacking it if its outcome is a sure happiness of your family? What particular Aristotle theory contradicts this concept? Discuss.
ANSWER:
No, I would never do hacking in order to have a sure happiness of my family.  For the reason, on doing such things is morally wrong. And it is illegally gain access to, and sometimes tampering with the information. For me the theory of Aristotle that contradicts about this bad concept is “Happiness depends on acquiring a moral character, where one displays the virtues of courage, generosity, justice, friendship, and citizenship in one’s life. These virtues involve striking a balance or “mean” between an excess and a deficiency”. Thus, you can have happiness if you attain on doing good things. Yes you may have excess happiness, but not true one.

Module 3: Preliminary Theories

QUESTION:
"We are all here on earth to help others. What I can't figure out is what the others are here for." --W. H. Auden. Discuss.

ANSWER:

For me to help, is to live, thus helping others is one of the most important aspects in life. It had different ways and forms on helping other people, which could make another person feel better either inside, or about them self. However, there are times that we never do our duties as a part of human raise. We become more selfish, and it is true that there is a natural tendency for everyone to be selfish. We try to make our own life happy and comfortable one. And we never realize that when we help someone we are in a way on helping ourselves. And the goodness that we may do unto others will always reflect upon on us.

QUESTION:
Ethical egoists think that people will be happiest if they look out for themselves and not concern themselves with others but is this where true human happiness lies? Discuss.

ANSWER:
No, for me this is not where true human happiness lies. True happiness is all about giving, and helping others. I don't think so that people will be happiest if the look out for themselves only, thus, God created human creatures not in a single person only, He created Adam and Eve in order to enlarge the human raise. And he knew that happiness of Adam was Eve.
According to Bernard Meltzer "Happiness is like a kiss. You must share it to enjoy it". You can only the find the true happiness if you share your happiness. Sharing with no regrets, and knowing it in future that this happiness is more productive in the society.

QUESTION:
What are the roots of egoism? Where does it come from? What do egotistical people FEAR?????

ANSWER:
It is said that ego is one's consciousness of one's own identity. And those egoists are usually considered to have lack of respect of other thought and beliefs, an they believe that they are better than to those people around them. Thus, I can say that pride works on it, and this pride is the root of egoism. Because of they are more powerful than to others they become more egoistic. And it is done through instincs and/or maybe biological heritage. Where they think overly highly of themselves in terms of thier capabilities, intelligence, humor and physical appearance. Just forexample, your heirtage family had money, power, and fame, and that's the reason why you didn't get marry to an unfortunate one. And they don't want to do that because they are just poor. And thinking  also on what other people might say.
Moreover, they affraid if somebody over pass on them, and loosing everything because of a simple reason.

Question:
      1. This is about the student handbook on computing for the students of Virginia University (Please surf for it). Read and understand their handbook .
If you are to become a part of the VSU team who will formulate a handbook like that of Virginia University, give at least 2 policies that you want to be implemented in VSU or even just for CS students like you, regarding computing . Also include sanction or sort of punishment to those who will violate the said policy.
Answer:
If I become a part of the VSU team who will formulate a handbook. The policies which i want to implement together with its sanctions are the following:
Browsing or watching pornographic sites using the computing facilities of the University is strictly prohibited - the sanctions of this policy are oral warning to the student that he or she is engaging in misconduct by violating policies if first caught. Second caught, suspension on using computing equipments.
Using computing facilities to harass others - the sanction of this policy is suspension which may lead on terminating the student status at the University for a specified period of time.

Question:
     2. According to the definition of ethics, it can be connected to the norms or custom of the society. What could be ethical to one could be unethical to another. If this is the case, in which ethics seem to be subjective in nature, why is there a need to study computer ethics at all? Support your opinion with facts.
Answer:
There is a need to study computer ethics in order to avoid computer abuse. We tend to use computers in order to manage our important data in an organized way, to work on and execute various projects related to our respective fields, to access internet for its numerous uses, for example instant and vast information on almost any possible topic. However, because of the advancement of the said technology, some uses it in a wrong way, such as posting pornographic images and videos and harassing other people. Just like on the social networking site facebook, thus,  a vast of nude pix flooded on the said website which may lead on looking down their dignity.

Question:
      3. There are 4 types of non-jural law. Divine, natural, moral and physical. If you are to practice just one type of the non-jural law for the entire existence of your life, what would it be and why?
Answer:
The non-jural law that I must to practice for the entire existence on my life is the Divine Law. Why? Because for me this law acts as the most important law in life among the rest. It is said that all other laws would fall under the divine law as it encompasses and governs not only human action but the whole universe as well.
Thus, if we have to practice this law in our in life, this law gives idea on how we respect other people, knowing on what is right or wrong, and of course if we follow this we will be guided to the right way.

Type of Machine I want to be

If I am a machine, I want to be a computer. As we all know a computer is a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized data) and manipulates it for some result based on a program or sequence of instructions on how the data is to be processed.

So why? It is because, for me computer is like human being in which it has major organs like heart and brain, and that is the CPU or the Central Processing Unit that acts like brain in the sense of storing information and manipulating it. It also acts like heart, thus, it has a so-called CPU clock that pumps instructions and data through the system every time it ticks.

So if I relate this definition in my existence I can say that being a computer I can accept information, process it, giving information and of course storing it. For me, it is a powerful machine, thus I can help people on giving information based on what they want, they can trust me on sharing problems, caring their things, and if they don't mind they can trust me on saving their money. Same is true on storing data or information.

Moreover, if I can be a computer machine. I say, it is fun. Thus, I can surf the whole world easily via internet. I can find a problem solution immediately. But, there is only one reason that I really love most, being a computer machine I don't have emotions to figure out. I can simply shut down every time I feel bad. And restart if I am now fine.

A program to promote moral values

Being a computer science student is not so easy, because we need to follow the rampant growing of technology, and by that moral values must be also promoted. So as a Com Sci, I want to develop an information system program. And this information system program is all about on how to boost your moral values. It has featured techniques on developing their moral values, such as videos, exercises, and many more. This program has mission to build the courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit to every human beings.

So, in favor on the course which I have taken right now. This program should tackle about morality behind the technology. Thus, software piracy, hacking, cyber sex, and posting pornography is ethically wrong. Why I am saying that those are precisely wrong? It is because that software piracy is the form of unauthorized copying of software. And it is defined that retail programs are licensed for use at just one computer site or for use by only one user at any time, you are allowed to make copies of the program for backup purposes, but it is against the law to give copies to friends and colleagues. Another thing also is hacking, we can say that hackers are clever programmer and it is someone who tries to break into computer systems. But we don't know that doing this such activity is morally wrong that is invading another's privacy and affairs without permission, and it could be the same as expertise to use, manipulate, and or steal. Thus, it is a form of theft to say the least. Cybersex and pornography are merely the same, it is because, for me it is the act of loosing dignity of anybody.

In promoting the moral values, this program would have a lot of options in contrary to that unethical doings. So, in software piracy we have free to use software,by that we don't need to pay for a certain license, and a good example for that is using of Open Office instead of cracking a license of the Microsoft.Office. Next is hacking, why we have to use our knowledge in a wrong way? Thus, we should have to be more thankful to God that he gave that knowledge to us. Why we don't use that knowledge to spread more good information to the others, so that we can help such as problem solving, creating a web page, and many more. And on regards to the pornography and cybersex, the program would be featured a different kinds of entertainment such as educational entertainment, so that their knowledge, skills, and talent will be more developed.

In regards to my hopes and aspirations five years from now, I wish that, it would be happened.
